Our area known as the 'Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' (AONB) with it's adjoining sands of Morecambe Bay and Kent Estuary is famous for wildlife and for walks around fells and knotts, the area has many miles of quiet paths that cross limestone strata and woodlands to Silverdale's Pepper Pot or via the Fairy Steps to Dallam Deer Park and Beetham.

AONB walks website

Local history shows a turbulent past with two local ruined pele towers adjacent to Arnside that were built to keep border raiders at bay. Arnside has several good pubs, Including JJ Crossfields Cafe and Bar and The Albion and has cafe's and interesting shops. The chip shop is famous locally. Stop awhile on the Arnside Pier about 1.5 hrs before high tide and if you time the tide correctly you may see the tidal bore. Walk Arnside's promenade through Ashmeadow Woods to a cabin cafe.

Organised walks are undertaken by the guide over sands trust who guide groups of walkers across the treacherous sands from Arnside to Kents Bank - if you are coming to stay with us we recommend you find out more, and maybe book ahead.

A trip to Foulshaw Moss on the other side of the estuary from Watersedge Retreat is worth visiting April to early October to try and see the Ospreys that nest there.
